You can definitely tell Brussels has more money than Rome. The Metro is really clean and trains run constantly. We almost always got to sit and everything we much less crowded. We didn’t worry about pickpockets at all and it felt very safe. The city center is a lot smaller than we thought and we were able to explore most of it in a day or so.
We went to the comic museum the first day so Max could explore it. Did you know the Smurfs are from Belgium? I didn’t. There are giant comic murals all over the city and we walked around trying to find as many as we could. The art style still resembles old comics from the 50’s.
After walking around we stood in line at a french fry place called Fritland for 30 minutes to try the world famous Belgian fries. They were really great. They finish the fries in beef tallow to make them extra crispy. The surprise to me was the kabob of wings. They were some of the best wings I have ever had. Too bad they didn’t have blue cheese though. I had to use the samurai sauce to dip in.
We really liked the Brussels metro. They only downside was that it was not as extensive as some of the others.
The smurfs are EVERYWHERE. It got a little exhausting after a few days.
The comic museum was really cool. They had some stuff in English so the kids could learn about the origins of the art.
The best and most important part of the day was Fritland. Those wings were some of the best ever. Look closely at the closest pile of fries. That is actually a sandwich that Lindsay ate with beef and other stuff in it. It was messy to say the least. I figured if I wanted to stay married I should not post the photos of her trying to eat it.
