Happy Valentine's Day

Things have been quiet this month since Carnival. We had some cold and rainy weather so we stayed inside a lot and didn’t do anything too exciting for a week or so. On Valentine’s Day we got some strawberry heart shaped donuts and had a small picnic down at the beach.

This past weekend we had a play date with our friends from England. They have a daughter the same age as Penny. The girls all played really well together and Max was a very patient and good big brother dealing with their shenanigans.

On Saturday we went to a birthday party for one of Max’s friends. We met a few other American families and one family that was originally from Russia, but have lived all over the world. It was interesting to meet other people and hear about their lives and why they decided to move. We were the only ones that weren’t permanently moving here.

This was actually the day before Valentine’s, but we got them each their own doughnut on Valentine’s. The topping was strawberry and it a had a cream filling, the girls loved them.

Penny loves drawing pictures in the sand.

You’re allowed to play on these boats that they have on the beach, but they’re often filled with water! Also, you can see a little bit of the sidewalk design. The sidewalks are usually white stone and in a lot of places they will create designs with black stones. Apparently you have to be specially licensed in order to repair these sidewalks.

This is a better picture of the sidewalk. This is Nazare beach on Valentine’s day and at the top of the cliff is Sitio, which is where you go to watch the big waves. You can see the broken rail track going up the cliff (it hasn’t worked since we got here) in the background next to the first light pole. You can’t really see it in the photo but further to the right of that is a set of stairs you can walk up.
