We had an unusually packed day. After the winery we ventured to Évora to see some Roman ruins and made a stop at the Church of São Fransisco (I look forward to not having to figure out how to add accent marks one day). It was much hotter than the kids have become accustomed to. However, the city was beautiful and there were some old roman ruins in one of the squares. The church we went into next to it had a great view from the roof of the ruins and the city. From the city drove to our AirBnb which thankfully had multiple air conditioning units. When we walked out on to the back patio we were surprised to see a castle on a hill in front of us. We were a little less excited by the noises from the goats and donkey early in the morning.
These ruins were really cool. You could go up to the side and touch the stone. We had walked uphill for a while in the heat so everyone was pretty beat.
It wouldn’t be a day exploring in Portugal without adventuring onto a roof with almost no safeguards. Lindsay and the kids stayed in the middle for the most part.
My favorite part of the day was when we were heading up this narrow staircase. It had a lot of steps. I was walking with Penny and I hear Gwen screaming , “This staircase won’t ever end!!!” Passing strangers in the cramped quarters was a little awkward also
The kids were rewarded with popsicles for their efforts.
