The back patio of the airBNB had a great view of castle Maurão. We explored it first thing in the morning before the weather got too hot. We were only about 6 miles from Spain but unfortunately we didn’t have time to cross the border. The castle was open to everyone and was one of the more dangerous ones we had been to. The kids and Lindsay stayed on the ground. I don’t think there was any upkeep and it seemed to be an explore at your own risk type situation.
I’m not sure if Lindsay knew, but I had no idea we would be staying this close to a castle.
Lindsay took my picture in one of the towers. I didn’t venture to the edge of the floor above this one. The reason will be evident in the next photo.
The floor was thin and there were rather large holes scattered throughout. I also think the closest hospital was a few hours away.
We were surprised by how much water was around us. There were beaches on the river and bridges were everywhere. The water was visible in almost every direction.
We tried to stay in the shade while Pete and Sarah explored the upper levels. This is how Gwen thought she should pose for photos from now on.
