We were very fortunate and got a private tour of one of the many castles in Sintra. We visited Quinta da Reglaeira. Basically a super rich guy made a bunch of money in Brazil and came back in the 1800s and built the craziest estate ever. He was also part of the Knights Templar. There is a well that is very deep. You walk down and it gets darker and darker then the knights would work their way through the tunnel and eventually find sunlight and come out enlightened. It was very compelling. Plus we found a secret passage that had zero lights and the kids loved it. We walked through it twice. That is the picture with the kids at the entrance.
