Lindsay found a mosaic class that was nearby. The woman who taught it was amazing. She teaches kids during the day so she was really good with the girls and took a special liking to Gwen. She was part Brazilian and spoke Portuguese. We of course had to embarrass ourselves by attempting to speak to her in Portuguese. It went about as well as you think.
During the class she recommended a place to eat lunch nearby. They sell suppli. It is a ball of rice with cheese and meat breaded and deep fried. We were very much on board after her description. The fact that they were only 4 euro each sealed the deal. It took us a while to find it but when we got them they were everything I hoped they could be.
From left to right, bird, heart, Rome design, butterfly, star. Max decided he was not going to follow the design and the instructor thought it was very creative. Also, people keep stopping us and to talk to us because they think we are from California when Lindsay wears this In-N-Out shirt.
When wandering around we found the building the Prime Minister lives and outside was this super tall tower dedicated to Marcus Aurelius. Aurelius is one of my favorite historical figures so I spent some time learning about it and trying to translate some of the inscriptions. The tower is 2000 years old.
We also found the Pantheon. It was too crowded to get inside so we just took pictures outside. The steady rain was a bit of a downer on the day.
Look at that cheese pull!. I have not attempted to make my own yet but this is going to be my go to dish for cookouts in the future. Suppli needs to be available in America.
