Dust Storm Day at the Beach - March 23rd

Back in March we had a couple of warm weather days, but they were a little different than usual. We had a dust storm from Africa blow in and the sky was hazy for two days straight. Since then it has happened once more while were renting a car and it completely covered the car with splotches of wet sand/mud. Apparently it happens often around here, but we never knew.

The beach was wonderful and it was kind of nice that the sun wasn’t beating down on us. The kids had a lot of fun and the girls played their new favorite game “Beat Up Max.” Penny and Gwen also practiced their handstands and opened a baker selling sand cakes decorated with shells and stones.

The following day we went back and the waves were very strong and you couldn’t go close without the life guards whistling at you. The waves were so strong they ended up creating a river past a little hill in the sand and the girls had a great time playing in it and throwing sticks and shells in it.

You can’t really see it from the pictures but it was fast moving river and even had little rapids that developed in it.

I was trying to capture how hazy it was because of the sandstorm from Africa.

Penny was attacking Max and wouldn’t let him up.

Penny is working on perfecting her handstands.

The “river” on Nazare beach.
