We drove for about an hour to Conimbriga. It was a Roman town and only about 20% has been excavated so far. The city was built in the first century. The tile work was really interesting and there was a fountain. It was surreal to walk through something so old while there were high voltage lines and windmills visible on the hill about a mile away.
The building behind them was the house for a rich family in the city.
We bought a pamphlet and listened to audio describing the ruins but it would have been really nice to have a guide. We had so many questions and there was not a lot of information describing the structures.
The coolest part were these fountain gardens we saw at the end. There is a coin operated machine that costs 0.50 euro. It makes the fountains turn on like they are in the picture for about 2 min.
